Norfolk speedway star Lewis Kerr has thanked fans and the public for their support after the horrific crash that left him in an induced coma just over a fortnight ago.

The popular twenty five year old who rides for King's Lynn and Newcastle was flown to hospital after he suffered serious head injuries in a crash at Peterborough.

A fund set up for him has raised over ten thousand pounds.

Remarkably he was able to return home a few days ago and now with help from his wife Jessie he has taken to Facebook to update fans on his condition. He said

Speedway star returns home after remarkable recovery

The wife of injured speedway racer Lewis Kerr has revealed that he has returned home.

The 25 year-old had to be placed in an induced coma after the horrific incident when he was riding at Peterborough on 2 August.

But now he's returned home - in "record" time, according to his wife.

His road to recovery isn't over - according to Jessie Kerr he will continue to be supported by specialists and will continue to visit Addenbrookes.

Now his wife Jessie has posted pictures of him up and about in hospital saying she hopes they'll put a smile on people's faces.

A fund set up for the stricken rider has now raised around ten thousand pounds.

King's Lynn Stars speedway rider Lewis Kerr is now out of an induced coma, his wife has confirmed.

The 25-year-old from Norfolk was riding for the Newcastle Diamonds at a meeting in Peterborough when he was involved in a serious crash.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where doctors put him into a coma.

His wife Jessie has now revealed that he is breathing unaided, but is still in critical care.

Meanwhile, a fund which has been set up to support Lewis and his family has already raised over £5,000.

A fund set up to help the family of Lewis Kerr as he lies in a coma in hospital has reached £2000 in just a few hours.

The popular King's Lynn Stars rider was competing for his loan side Newcastle Diamonds when he suffered head injuries in the crash at Peterborough on Sunday August 2.

His pregnant wife and parents were at the stadium and saw the accident.

Those who've set up the fund say they hope it will take pressure off his family while Lewis recovers. He's in a stable condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

King's Lynn speedway rider Lewis Kerr is in a stable condition after his horrific crash in Peterborough at the weekend.

Lewis Kerr from Norfolk was riding for the Newcastle Diamonds at a meeting in Peterborough when he suffered head injuries. He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge where he was placed in an induced coma.

The hospital says he's in a stable condition.

George English, the Newcastle Diamonds manager, said there had been little change but that there were positive signs for Lewis.

The joint boss of Peterborough speedway has added an emotional message to the flood of well-wishes for injured star Lewis Kerr.

The Newcastle and King's Lynn ace was airlifted to hospital following a horror crash in the Final of the Premier League Fours at the East of England Showground yesterday.

Specialist medics were flown in to treat Kerr at the track before he was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in an induced coma.

Dale Allitt, joint boss at Peterborough and promoter of King's Lynn Young Stars, said Lewis would have wanted tonight's meeting between Wolverhampton and King's Lynn Stars to go ahead.

He discovered Lewis Kerr as an up-and-coming speedway rider graduating from moto cross.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to Peterborough Speedway – and I’m sure the sport as a whole – are with Lewis.

“He is a great guy who I have known since he took his first steps in the sport with the Young Stars at King’s Lynn.

“We can only hope for good news in the coming days. Lewis is a fighter and, if anyone can pull through adversity, it is him.”

Meanwhile British Speedway has announced it'll postpone the draw for the Premier League Riders' Championship which is due to take place in Sheffield next month.
