Anglia region MPs appointed to Government

There are high profile jobs for some of the region's MPs as David Cameron's Cabinet begins to take shape.

Essex MPs John Whittingdale and Priti Patel were among those summoned to Downing Street today, and they've been given the roles of Culture Secretary and Employment Minister respectively.

More Conservative MPs from the Anglia region have been given new government positions in the new government.

North East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt has become a Health Minister. Mr Burt was a Foreign Office minister from 2010 until 2013 and now returns to the government frontbench.

The MP for South Holland and the Deepings, John Hayes, is moved from the Department for Transport to become the Security Minister in the Home Office. Mr Hayes has been a minister since 2010. He was first elected an MP in South Lincolnshire in 1997.

The Rayleigh and Wickford MP Mark Francois is moved from being the Armed Forces Minister to the Department for Communities and Local Government. Before the Conservatives came to power, Mr Francois was the Shadow Europe Minister from 2007 until 2010. He was elected an Essex MP in 2001.

Andrea Leadsom has been promoted from a junior Treasury post to become an Energy and Climate Change Minister. Mrs Leadsom has been a vocal critic of the HS2 rail project which is due to run through part of her South Northamptonshire constituency.

The MP for Grantham and Stamford, Nick Boles remains in his post as a joint Education and Business minister with additional responsibility for trade union & employment law.

Therese Coffey, the Suffolk Coastal MP, has been given her first government job as Deputy Leader of the House of Commons.

The West Suffolk MP Matt Hancock has been appointed Cabinet Office Minister and Paymaster General.

He will have responsibility for Civil Service reform and efficiency in government departments. He replaces Francis Maude, who held the position since 2010.

Mr Hancock was elected a Suffolk MP in 2010 and previously worked as Chief of Staff for the then Shadow Chancellor George Osborne. He was first appointed a minister in September 2012.

The South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss is to remain as the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as David Cameron continues to announce his ministerial team following the election.

Liz Truss was first appointed an Education Minister in September 2012 and was promoted to the Cabinet in July 2014.

She was elected SW Norfolk MP in 2010 and increased her majority to 13,861 in last Thursday's General Election.

David Cameron is completing his ministerial appointments today following the party's majority at the General Election.

• Priti Patel, Witham MP, becomes Minister for Employment
• Robert Halfon, Harlow MP, becomes Minister without Portfolio and Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party
