Thames Valley Police say they have referred their handling of a missing person inquiry to the Independent Police Complaints Commission - as they confirmed a body found in Milton Keynes yesterday was that of Alex Todd-Weller.

The 21-year-old, from Shenley Brook End, was last seen leaving Pink Punters nightclub in Watling Street in the early hours of Monday morning.

A search was called off after a body was found in Furzton Lake yesterday afternoon and police this evening confirmed it had been formally identified as that of Mr Todd-Weller.

Police said the IPCC referral was linked to a "fear of welfare" report they received on Monday.
