A fifth person has died in our region's lakes and rivers after police confirmed that a woman who got into difficulty at the Blue Lagoon Nature Reserve near Milton Keynes has passed away.

Bletchley: Woman who got into difficulties at Blue Lagoon dies

A woman who got into difficulties in a lake in Bletchley last week has died.

Emergency services were called to the Blue Lagoon Nature Reserve on Wednesday afternoon.

The 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital but police have confirmed she passed away on Friday.

She is the fifth person to die in the region's lakes and rivers in the last fortnight - none of the deaths are believed to be suspicious.

A young woman is seriously ill in hospital after getting into difficulty late yesterday afternoon in the Blue Lagoon in Bletchley near Milton Keynes.

The woman, who's in her 20s, went into the water to help a child.

Four people have died in the region's open water in the past week.

The authorities are urging people to stay away from open water and stick to swimming pools.

Family speak out in a bid to prevent further tragedy

A family have appealed to people to stay out of rivers and lakes in the hot weather after a number of drownings across the region in the last few days.

On Friday rescue teams recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy from the River Ouse in Hartford near Huntingdon.

The same day 16-year-old Conor McColl's body was found at Clophill lake in Bedfordshire.

Then on Saturday a 61-year-old man drowned in the Blue Lagoon Lake near Bletchley and yesterday a 57-year-old canoeist died at Sixfields lake in Northampton.

Conor's mother and father were too distressed to speak to the press but asked his aunt and uncle to speak out in a bid to save other lives.

Man dies in apparent canoeing accident

A man has died in an apparent canoeing accident in Northamptonshire.

Police were called to the lake at Sixfields in Northampton at around 4pm yesterday after reports of an overturned canoe.

The body of a 57-year-old man was recovered from the lake just before 5pm, along with a canoe.

The man’s death is not being treated a suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

It comes just two days after the deaths of two boys in separate swimming incidents in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
