Inquest opened into Northampton death

An inquest has opened into the death of a woman from Northampton, killed in a house fire started by her son-in-law.

75-year-old Mavis Clift died, and her daughter Susan Barber was seriously injured in the blaze on New Year's day 2008. Susan's estranged husband Paul Barber was charged with murder, but died in Woodhill prison before trial.

A report by a local domestic abuse forum found police had missed chances to protect Susan Barber from her husband.
