Last sighting of Suffolk man missing in Hungary

Police in Hungary have released CCTV pictures of a missing medical student from Suffolk taken on the night he disappeared.

The brief footage shows Daniel Gliksten from Denham walking along a main road in Budapest near to the River Danube just after two o'clock on the morning of New Years Day. He had been drinking at a nearby club with friends but hasn't been seen since.

Jack Smith has known Daniel Gliksten for nearly 14 years. They went to school together in Suffolk and Jack remains friends with Daniel and his family, despite Daniel's various moves within England and eventually overseas.

Jack says his group of friends are all very outgoing and clever and they were supportive of Daniel's decision to study in Hungary. He describes Daniel as 'the best of a bright lot'.

Jack found out about Daniel's disappearance when he saw a report on ITV Anglia. He says the news shocked him and that it would be totally out of character for this experienced traveller to go off somewhere without getting in touch.

Family join hunt for missing Suffolk man

The family of a student from Suffolk who has been missing in Hungary since leaving a New Year celebration have flown to Budapest to find him.

Daniel Gliksten, 23, is studying medicine in Budapest and was last seen celebrating with friends in the city.

His family, who run the 1,200 acre Denham Estate near Bury St Edmunds, are said to be desperate to locate him.

In a statement they said:

His family is very concerned for his safety and currently is in Budapest working with the Hungarian authorities, British and Swedish Embassies to try and ascertain his whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Hungarian police confirmed officers in the city's fifth district had launched an investigation.

Mr Gliksten, who holds dual British and Swedish nationality, was seen leaving the Otkert bar in Zrfnyi Street in the early hours of January 1. The area is popular with tourists.
