Murder inquiry launched in Ipswich after man found dead on New Year's Day

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man was found dead at a house on New Year's Day.

Suffolk Police were called to an address in Hawthorn Drive in Ipswich just before 6pm on Wednesday where a man was found dead.

The victim was named by detectives as 63-year-old William McNicholl, who was known as Billy, and was from the town.

A Home Office post-mortem took place on Saturday and preliminary results indicated the cause of death as being from multiple injuries.

A police scene remained in place on Sunday at the premises on Hawthorn Drive, near to the junction with Marigold Avenue.

There was also an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continued.

A formal inquest has yet to take place.
