An inquest has been opened into the death of a British tourist found dead after falling down a lift shaft.

Tyler Kerry, 20, from Basildon, was found fatally injured at a hotel near Lara Beach in Antalya last month.

His family claimed the labourer, who was on holiday with his family and girlfriend Molly, had been murdered.

Essex area coroner Michelle Brown opened an inquest into his death on Tuesday.

She told the inquest the law in Turkey did not recognise the jurisdiction of the coroner's court in the United Kingdom.

A post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries and blunt force trauma.

Tyler Kerry, who lived with his grandmother Collette and grandfather Ray, was on his first family holiday abroad at the all-inclusive Trendy Lara resort hotel when the incident took place on 29 November.

The family have launched a GoFundMe page to try to raise money for help with legal representation.

Mr Kerry's uncle Alex Price said: "We want to ensure that a thorough and transparent investigation is carried out by Turkish Authorities and that those responsible for Tyler's death are held to account."

He described his nephew as "a compassionate young man who was loved by everyone who knew him."

The family have raised over £8,000 towards legal costs and say they are working with Justice Abroad.
