Detectives have launched a double murder investigation after two women were found dead, following reports of a Christmas Day stabbing.
Thames Valley Police officers were called to a block of apartments in Santa Cruz Avenue, Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.
Two women, aged 38 and 24 respectively, both died at the scene and a man in his late 20s and teenage boy were seriously injured and taken to hospital. They remain in a stable condition.
A 49-year-old man from Milton Keynes was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He remains in police custody, according to Thames Valley Police.
A dog which was also injured in the incident was taken to a vet but did not survive.
Flowers have been left on Santa Cruz Avenue and people in the area have been reacting in shock to the deaths.
One man said: "It's a terribly sad situation to happen anywhere but on Christmas Day, which is supposed to be a day of love and peace and something like this could happen on your doorstep."
Another man from the area said: "I'm really shocked. It's really really scary."
Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Insp Stuart Brangwin, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: "I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of the women who have tragically died in this shocking incident.
"We have launched a double murder investigation, which may be concerning to the wider public. However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and the parties are known to each other.
"Members of the public will see a large police presence in the area while our investigation takes place. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to approach our officers and they will do their best to help."
The police force is appealing for information or footage and anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference number 43240622935, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
The next of kin of both victims have been informed and formal identification is due to take place.
