Essex police officer injured after being dragged along road by motorcyclist

A police officer's been injured in Essex after a motorcyclist drove off while he was trying to stop him.

The officer asked the rider on an off-road bike to stop in Station Road at Takeley, but he rode off, dragging the policeman for a short distance.

He was taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing and is now recovering at home.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Steven Wilson, from Colchester CID, said: “It is totally unacceptable for any officer to receive injuries whilst going about their duties.

“The rider was wearing a white motocross style helmet with a visor and chin guard. He was in his late 20s or early 30s and of stocky build with blonde hair.

“The motorcycle was white and clean and did not appear to have indicators, lights or an index number.

Police are keen to hear from any witnesses. They should call 101, citing incident 731 of December 11.
