Lidl to open largest UK distribution centre in Peterborough tomorrow
Budget supermarket Lidl are to open a new £70m distribution centre in Peterborough tomorrow.
The new warehouse, next to the A1(M) will employ 400 people and another fifty will be recruited later. It forms part of Lidl's £1.45bn investment in Great Britain across 2019 - 2020 and follows the news that the chain plan to open 100 new stores across the country next year and in 2022.
The centre is 45,000 m² - the equivalent of more than eight football pitches - and will replace an existing smaller warehouse at Lutterworth, which will continue to operate as a non-food warehouse.Another distribution centre is planned for Luton later in the year.
