Coronavirus cases starting to rise again in the Anglia region

There has been an increase in the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 in the Anglia region in the past fortnight.

In the two weeks to Friday 17 July, there were 933 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the Anglia region. That was an increase of 77 on the previous fortnight when 856 people tested positive.

More than 28,500 people have been confirmed as having Covid-19 in the Anglia region since the start if the pandemic and nearly 6,000 people have died.

The NHS reported no new patient deaths over the weekend - the first time there were no deaths declared on both Saturday and Sunday.

One further death was announced on Monday in Northamptonshire and it is possible further patients have died but there is often a time lag in the reporting over a weekend.

The largest percentage rise in coronavirus cases in the Anglia region has been in Luton and Northamptonshire, increasing by 4.2% and 3.8% respectively in the past week. The number of positive tests in Peterborough was up by 3.6%.

The national rise has been around 1.8%.

  • Bedfordshire - 4,050 cases - up 103 (2.6%) in the past week

  • Cambridgeshire - 3,636 cases - up 82 (2.3%) in the past week

  • Essex - 6,804 cases - up 147 (2.2%) in the past week

  • Hertfordshire - 4,201 cases - up 47 (1.1%) in the past week

  • Milton Keynes - 864 cases - up 5 (0.6%) in the past week

  • Norfolk - 2,869 cases - up 8 (0.8%) in the past week

  • Northamptonshire - 3,381 cases - up 123 (3.8%) in the past week

  • Rutland - 96 cases - up 4 (4.3%) in the past week

  • Suffolk - 2,640 cases - up 11 (0.4%) in the past week

The Anglia region is the six counties of the East of England plus Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. Bedfordshire is the three unitary authorities of Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton. Cambridgeshire includes Peterborough and Essex includes Southend and Thurrock.
