28 hours of fundraising will get underway this weekend in memory of a young man from Cambridgeshire who took his own life.

Max Hunter from Kimbolton passed away last August at the age of 28. Now, a group of his friends are determined to turn pain into positivity by doing what Max loved the most - playing sport.

Max's friend, Dan Griffin, said Max was a fun-loving guy who people enjoyed being around.

He added: "It's one of those things where you know someone for being so fun and so happy, so it doesn't even cross your mind that they might be going through something bigger."

Dan and others are fundraising for a scheme that will be delivered through The Mintridge Foundation, a Northamptonshire charity. It will provide mentoring programmes for young people across the UK, with a focus on Max's favourite sports.

"We'll take Olympians, Paralympians and professional athletes into schools to deliver physical activity programmes that are focused on those main sports that Max loved, like rugby and cricket", Katie Smith from The Mintridge Foundation said.

The charity will also deliver remote mentoring to support young people who need extra help.

Founder Alex Wallace said: "What we're trying to achieve is not dwelling on the negativity of what happened last summer, but actually using this as a positive and real focus to make sure that people open up, they acknowledge their feelings"
