Clacton Pier prepares to reopen in July as lockdown rules relaxed
Most of Clacton Pier will open to the public from July 4 following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Details on the next stage of lockdown were announced by Boris Johnson on Tuesday.
Among those to reopen their doors are adventure parks and amusement arcades.
A number of measures have been put in place to make sure Clacton pier is Covid-secure and ready to welcome visitors again.
Hundreds of social distancing signs have been put up and they’ll be plenty of hand sanitizer for people to use.
Hygiene teams will be visible around the pier making sure everywhere is kept clean and at night, when they’re closed, fogging machines will produce plumes of disinfectant to go over the equipment.
Stewards will be on the front door limiting the number of people allowed in, but there will be the opportunity to book online in advance.
Sixty per cent of the pier’s income will usually come in July and August.
The pier has welcomed the news to reopen as they rely on that to get them through the winter months.
They’ll be reduced capacity on many of the rides and the staff operating them will be wearing visors.
“The pier was the first building in Clacton-on-sea", Billy said.
"It was built as a holiday destination and this was built to bring people here and entertain them so the pier is fundamental to tourism in Tendring. “
“We need to let people know that the British coast is open and that people can start coming back.”
