Three coronavirus deaths in the Anglia region - the lowest daily figure since Monday

The NHS reported on Sunday that three more patients had died with Covid-19 in hospitals in the Anglia region.

It is the lowest daily figure reported since Monday when one patient was reported although the numbers do tend to fall as weekend because of delays in notification.

On Saturday 16 deaths were announced with four on Friday and 12 on Thursday.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, 5,673 people have died in the Anglia region. The total includes deaths in hospitals, care homes and in the community.

Basildon hospital reported that two patients died on 19th June bringing the total there to 291. The Essex hospitals is one of the worst affected by coronavirus in the Eastern Counties.

The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust, which runs the main hospitals in Ipswich and Colchester, also reported one Covid-19 patient had died.

The number of new cases of coronavirus in the Anglia region has risen in the past week by around 100.

There were 371 positive tests for Covid-19 in the Anglia region in the week to Sunday compared to 271 during the week before.

The biggest increase was in Bedfordshire where new cases were up by 116 or 5% in a week. Essex reported 137 new cases while there was only three new positive tests in Suffolk.

It's known if the increase in new cases is a new trend or the result of increased testing.
