Four more patients have died with coronavirus in hospitals in the Anglia region

The NHS reported as additional four Covid-19 patients had lost their lives in hospitals in the Anglia region, one of the lowest daily figures since March.

The four patients died at Basildon Hospital in Essex, at Kettering General in Northamptonshire, at the North West Anglia NHS Trust in Cambridgeshire and at the West Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

In total 3,946 people have died in the region's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

The numbers of deaths in local care homes and in the community is only released on a weekly basis on a Tuesday. When that data is included, the total death toll is 5,655. That includes people who have had Covid-19 included on their death certificate but where there was no positive test.

The figure of four patients dying in the region is the lowest daily today since one death was reported on Monday. Both figures are the lowest since before lockdown.

Over the past week an average of 10 deaths a day has been reported by the NHS in the Anglia region. The previous week the figure was 14.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Anglia region has risen in the past week compared with the previous seven days.

There were 331 new positive tests in the region in the past week compared to 255 new confirmed cases the week before.

There were 100 new cases in Bedfordshire, which is up 5% on the week and and additional 118 new cases in Essex, an increase of 3%. Overall the region has seen an increase of 2% in the past week.

The Bedfordshire figures are the local authorities of Bedford, Luton and Central Bedfordshire combined.

Cambridgeshire includes Peterborough and Essex includes Southend and Thurrock.

The Anglia region is the East of England with Milton Keynes, Northamptonshire and Rutland.
