NHS reports 12 more coronavirus deaths in hospitals in the Anglia region

A further 12 patients have died in hospitals in the Anglia region in the latest daily figures released by NHS England.

It brings the total number of deaths in the region's hospitals to 3,942. The total number of people who have died with Covid-19, including those who has passed away in local care homes, hospices and in their own homes, has reached 5,651.

The Luton & Dunstable Hospital in Bedfordshire reported that four more coronavirus patients there has lost their lives there between the 12th and 14th June. The hospital is one of the worse affected in the region with 274 patients dying there.

Bedfordshire has seen the highest infection rate of any county in the Anglia region with 341 positive tests per 100,000 in the population. The death rate is also higher than many other parts of the region with 87 deaths per 100,000.

The number of people dying in hospital in the Anglia region peaked on the 8th April when 120 patients died.

The daily rate has been steadily decreasing since then but the decline has slowed in recent weeks.

In the past week, the average number of deaths per day was 11, which is the lowest 7-day average since the 24th March.
