16 more patients die with coronavirus in the Anglia region

A day after the NHS reported no coronavirus deaths in the East of England, 16 further deaths were announced in hospitals in the region.

Delays in reporting of deaths after the weekend meant the figures have been revised and now show that some patients had died in the past few days.

Weekly figures were also released on Tuesday by the Office of National Statistics and the Care Quality Commission and have added a further 55 deaths in care homes, hospices and the community into the overall death toll in the Anglia region.

The total is now 5,624. More 70% of people have died in hospitals with just under one quarter passing away in the region's care homes.

The number of deaths in the Anglia region has fallen for the seventh consecutive week since the peak of 963 deaths in the week ending 17th April.

The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust, which runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, reported three more patients had died.
