A man who was shot multiple times outside a party in Essex has died in hospital.

Essex Police confirmed this afternoon (June 14) that they had launched a murder investigation following the shooting on Saturday morning.

The man in his 50s was shot in Roydon near Harlow when attackers opened fire from a car on a group outside a property in Water Lane.

Two women in their 20s were also treated for gunshot wounds but their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Detectives say they are keeping an "open mind" on whether the crime is linked to any other investigations.

Det Insp Greg Wood said: "Our priority is to establish the circumstances around this incident and find those responsible for the shooting.

"The investigation is progressing and we are speaking with witnesses and those linked with the property as part of our enquiries.

Supt Jon Burgess said: "We understand that the local community will be concerned about what has happened and we want to offer reassurance that we are here and working with our partners to support them.

"Our community policing team will be conducting extra patrols in the area and I encourage anyone who has information or concerns to speak to them.”
