Peterborough United have confirmed that six out of contract players have left the club - including midfielder Marcus Maddison and defender Rhys Bennett.

Goalkeepers Aaron Chapman and Conor O’Malley, as well as midfielders Alex Woodyard and Callum Cooke have also not been offered new deals.

Maddison is currently on loan at Championship club Hull City, while Woodyard and Cooke were on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City respectively.

Centre back Bennett had struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Posh team this season, as did keepers Chapman and O’Malley who often acted as Christy Pym's understudies.

Loanees Reece Brown, Sammie Szmodics and Josh Knight have returned to their parent clubs.

Peterborough are facing up to another season in League One after clubs voted to end the current campaign earlier this week.

“I would like to thank the six players for their efforts on behalf of the football club and wish them well for the future," manager Darren Ferguson said.

"I would also like to thank Reece Brown, Sammie Szmodics and Josh Knight for their contribution to the club during their loan spells, which have now concluded.”

Meanwhile, Director of Football Barry Fry admits star player Ivan Toney will now have to be sold this summer.

"We've got no chance of keeping Ivan Toney now," he told ITV News Anglia.

"He will have to be sold. Hopefully he's the only one we'll have to sell because if we get the money we anticipate to get for him, we'll be able to keep the rest of the players."
