Organisers of the Clacton Airshow have confirmed the event has been cancelled this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic - and will return in August 2021.

Tendring District Council said they had held off making the decision for as long as possible but could see no way to maintain social distancing among the big crowds that gather on the beach.

The two-day event - which attracts around 250,000 visitors each year - had been due to take place on August 27 and 28.

The airshow is Essex's most-visited event and provides a massive boost to the area's economy.

The council said it would now turn its attention to how to re-ignite Clacton's tourism industry.

Cllr Porter said the authority was considering extending the season into autumn to give businesses "an opportunity to flourish".
