Why a car park reopening could give Norwich a vital economic boost

For some people the reopening of a car park is of little interest. But in these unprecedented times a restart for one of the busiest in Norwich is a significant step forward in things returning to some sort of normality as lockdown starts to ease.

From Monday June 15th the Forum car park in the city centre will open for business again after being shut since mid-March.

The move is being made to tie in with the reopening of "non essential" shops and businesses on the same day.

Although the library, toilets and other businesses at the Forum will stay shut for now, the car park opening again is being looked on as a vital step in getting the whole building up and running again

Tim Bishop, Chief Executive, The Forum Trust said:

The car park will reopen from 8am on Monday 15 June and will operate temporary opening hours of 8am-6pm Monday-Sunday.

Visitors using The Forum car park will be able to park safely with social distancing measures in place.

Only card payments will be accepted and The Forum is investing in new contactless terminals to allow payments at entry/exit barriers. Up to 35,000 people a week use the car park when it's open.
