Bridge disruption in Bedford is over
It's taken a year to do the work but at last disruption for motorists using a rail bridge in Bedford is over.
The Bromham Road bridge will reopen next week (Tuesday 9th) after being closed while Network Rail carried out major improvement work as part of the Midland Main Line upgrade.
They demolished and rebuilt the structure at a raised height to provide a safe distance for newly installed overhead line equipment to pass beneath.
The work was carried out to enable the line from London to Kettering and Corby via Bedford to be electrified as part of a £1.5billion project to improve the railway.
All of this work is part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade, which is the biggest investment into the line since its construction in the Victorian era.
