The NHS has reported 31 more patients have died in hospital with Covid-19 taking to the total for the Anglia region to 3,579 since the start of the pandemic.

It is a lower figure than the 42 deaths reported in the region's hospitals on Wednesday but higher than Sunday and Monday when 11 and 18 deaths were announced.

Over the past week, the average daily death toll reported by the NHS in the region has been 28 a day. That is lower than the 31 deaths per day being reported during the previous seven days.

The NHS figures do not include people with Covid-19 who pass away in care homes or in the community. That information is available at a local level only on a weekly basis.

When the data released by the Office of National Statistics on Tuesday is included, the regional death toll rises to more than 5,000.

Kettering General Hospital reported an additional five patients had died taking the total number of deaths there to 169.
