Daily total of Covid-19 deaths in hospitals in the Anglia region lowest for seven weeks
The NHS announced on Monday that 17 patients died with coronavirus in hospitals in the Anglia region, the lowest daily figure since 23 March.
The total number of patients dying with Covid-19 in hospitals in the area is now 3,066.
When figures released last week of deaths in care homes, hospices and in the community are included the death toll in the Anglia region rises to more than 4,100.
It is expected that number will increase further when updated information is announced by the Office of National Statistics on Tuesday.
Basildon Hospital in Essex reported a further two patients had died taking its total to 254. Essex hospitals have seen the highest death tolls in the region with a total of 985 patients dying.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn also reported two more deaths with 123 patients dying overall, the highest number of any of the three main hospitals in Norfolk. The West Norfolk area around King's Lynn has also had the highest infection rate of coronavirus cases in the East of England.
A further two patients died at Northampton General Hospital on 8th May with 32 deaths in that unit in the past ten days.
Across England, a further 209 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 23,358.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 40 and 99 years old and 12 of them had no known underlying health condition.
