Northampton's Royal & Derngate theatre launches appeal for funds to get through pandemic
The Royal and Derngate theatre in Northampton has launched a fundraising appeal, asking audiences to help them through the pandemic. Like many businesses across the region, Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the venue's ability to stay afloat.
The filmhouse earns close to 90% of its income through ticket sales and bar revenue, all of which were wiped out overnight when they had to close because of the pandemic. More than 40,000 tickets have since been cancelled or postponed.
Marking the 136th birthday of the founding of the Royal Theatre, they've launched the Help Bring Us Back Together campaign to highlight the many things the public can do to help support the venue. This doesn't just mean donations, customers are also being encouraged to book tickets for later in the year, or to accept vouchers rather than refunds.
