Motorist seriously injured after driving wrong way down the A12

A motorist is fighting for his life in hospital after driving the wrong way down the A12 in Essex and colliding with a recovery vehicle.

Two vehicles, a white Audi A1 and a recovery vehicle, collided on the London-bound carriageway between Junction 24 for Marks Tey and 25 for Kelvedon shortly before midnight on 2 May.

Essex Police believe the Audi had been travelling the wrong way up the carriageway.

The driver of the Audi, a man in his 50s, was taking to hospital with multiple injuries and is in a life-threatening condition. The lorry driver also went to hospital but his injuries are not described as life-threatening.

The road was closed for several hours while officers investigated but reopened at 9.15am.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the Audi, or has dash cam footage of it, in the moments leading up to the collision to come forward.
