Capt Tom said "it was an honour" to be made an honorary colonel.

"Didn't everyone get a promotion overnight", he laughed.

"As far as the regular army is concerned, I am still captain. If I am trying to be posh I could say I am a colonel. I am very pleased to be given that honour, it is great!

"To me I am no different today than I was yesterday, but this seems to have made a difference to a lot of people.

"At 1920, I don't think anybody was thinking about 2020. I am sure when I was born my parents didn't think I would live till I was 100, so here I am. I know my father would be very pleased as I would be the oldest in my family.

"I've been looking forward to turning 100, now it is here, what am I going to do tomorrow."
