A further 70 patients with coronavirus have died in hospitals in the Anglia region

NHS England has reported an additional 70 deaths of patients with coronavirus in the Anglia region increasing the total number of hospital deaths to 2,581.

The daily figures released by the NHS do not include people dying in the community, in care homes, in hospices or in their own homes.

A further nine patients have died at Kettering Hospital in Northamptonshire taking the total there to 104. The deaths occurred between the 25th and 27th April.

The Luton and Dunstable hospital also reported a further nine patients dying on the 25th and 26th April. A total of 179 patients have died at the hospital with coronavirus.

Across England, a further 391 people, who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 20,137.

NHS England said that the patients were aged between 15 and 101 years old and that 15 of them of had no known underlying health condition.

From Tuesday, NHS England also started including in the daily figures, patients who had died with suspected Covid-19 but who hadn't been tested.

In the East of England, six patients had died between 24th and 28th April with no positive test but Covid-19 was recorded on the death certificate. Along with six deaths reported in this way on Wednesday, it makes a total of 12 additional deaths.
