Coronavirus daily death toll in the Anglia region stays above 100 for the fourth day running
The daily death toll of people with coronavirus in the Anglia region has stayed above 100 for the fourth day running.
The number of people with Covid-19 dying in hospitals in the Anglia region has rose by 104 to 1,602 on Friday.
Over the previous three days this week, the region saw more than 100 deaths announced each day with a total of 334 deaths between Tuesday and Thursday.
The figures released by NHS England cover the period since the start of the outbreak until 5pm on Thursday 16 April 2020. They include patients who die in hospitals or medical units but not those who lose their lives in care homes, hospices or in their own home.
Bedford Hospital recorded a further 11 deaths taking the total there to 70. The patients died between the 9th and 15th April.
Essex remains the county with the highest death rate in the East of England. Basildon Hospital has seen 169 patients dying with the virus with a further 10 included in Friday's figures.
Across England, a further 738 people, who tested positive for the Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 13,134.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 32 and 101 years old and 30 of them had no known underlying health condition.

The rise in the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases in the Anglia region has slowed in recent days although it still rose by nearly 400 on Friday.
The total number of cases in the region since the start of the pandemic has now reached 8,016.
The largest daily rise in the region on Friday was in Bedfordshire where they went up 10% from 940 to 1,031.
The number of cases in the region have doubled in the past 11 days.

The Bedfordshire figures are the local authorities of Bedford, Luton and Central Bedfordshire combined. Cambridgeshire includes Peterborough and Essex includes Southend and Thurrock.
