Two men arrested after separate firearms-related incidents in Suffolk

Two men have been arrested in Lowestoft and Stowmarket after separate incidents allegedly involving a firearm and an imitation firearm.

In the first incident, police were called a property in Pakefield Street in Lowestoft on Thursday afternoon, following a report of a man threatening to harm himself.

The area was condoned off by officers for more than 24 hours while police negotiators, armed response vehicles and a dog unit were called in.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on the evening of Good Friday, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with an intent to cause fear of violence.

The man was later detained under the Mental Health Act.

In the second incident, officers were called to Stowmarket early on Saturday evening after receiving a report of a man carrying a firearm on Station Road in the town.

Officers arrested a man and he was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

On Sunday, 41-year-old David Heath of Lime Tree Place in Stowmarket was charged with two counts of possession an imitation firearm with intent.

He was remanded to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.
