"The star of Essex's stellar campaign". That's how the prestigious cricket publication Wisden describes Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer, who's been named one of their five 'Cricketers of the Year' for 2020.
The 31 year old marked his third season with the county by helping them become the first to secure the double of Specsavers County Championship & Vitality T-20 Blast titles, the latter achieved with Harmer as captain.
Speaking on Essex's official website Harmer acknowledged the tradition of being recognised by Wisden
Harmer becomes the fourth Essex cricketer to be honoured by Wisden since the turn of the century following Nasser Hussain (2003), Sir Alastair Cook (2012) and Jamie Porter (2018), and the 26th overall.
His selection by Wisden caps an incredible sequence of awards including Essex's Player of the Year, the Players' Player of the Year and Bowler of the Year, plus two from the players' Union the PCA (Professional Cricketers Association).
Harmer was also named the Cricket Writers Club County Championship Player of the Year.
