COVID-19 death: MK hospital patient had returned from Caribbean cruise

The family, which wishes to remain anonymous said they have lost "a truly loving and wonderful person" and that they are "trying to come to terms with this".

They said the 83-year old was "a wonderful husband, dad, grandad and great-grandad who would go to any lengths to support and protect his family."

A man in his eighties who caught COVID-19 and died at Milton Keynes University Hospital patient had just returned from a Caribbean cruise.

The man had underlying health conditions. He tested positive for coronavirus and died on Thursday evening (5th March).

A spokesperson from the hospital told ITV News Anglia that the area the patient was kept in had now been deep cleaned and around ten members of staff who were treating him are now self-isolating.

Any patients or family members who had been in contact with the man are also in self-isolation.

The hospital wants to reassure people that if they were at risk from this recent death, then they would have been contacted already.

The hospital is running as normal with an isolation ward open and running with 'corona pods' at various points on the hospital site.

A 'drive up' swabbing area is to be set up for anyone who is worried they may have the virus.
