Roads reopened in Luton as town declared safe after bomb scare this morning

Roads in Luton have reopened after they were shut off this morning due to a bomb scare.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of offences committed under the explosives act.

The police were called to Dunstable Road around 7.20 this morning, when they received calls about the behaviour of a man in a car.

At the scene they found a suspicious device, and the bomb disposal team were called.

The roads were closed, and later a second car in Brook Street was searched by explosive experts as a second man was arrested.

Homes in the Bury Park area were evacuated as a precaution as the experts moved in.

The explosive ordnance disposal team says that the device they police found was not a viable threat.

The second car that was searched was also found to be of no threat to the public.

Bedfordshire police says that they have launched an investigation into the device and the circumstances which lead to it being discovered.
