Man jailed after tricking his way into OAP's home and stealing her handbag
A man has been jailed for five years after he tricked his way into a 76-year-old woman's house and stole her handbag.David Sale posed as a CCTV salesman in May last year to get into a woman's home in Leighton Buzzard.
He told the victim that he would install security cameras that would prevent her from being burgled.
She paid him £30 for a camera and installation and while she was distracted, he took her handbag without her noticing.
Sale, who is from Birmingham, denied the crime, but was later identified following a forensic examination that placed him at the scene.
He was found guilty at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday (26 February) for burglary and theft.
On sentencing, His Honour Judge Andrew Bright told Sale: “You are the sort of person that the elderly and vulnerable people of Bedfordshire need to be protected from.”
Detective Constable Kevin Howes, who led the investigation, said: “I’m pleased with the sentence, which will give this individual time to reflect on his despicable actions.
