Huge overnight truck fire in Fenland

At 11.46pm on 11 February, four crews were called to a large fire in Funtham Lane, Whittlesey.

On arrival, firefighters found a large fire involving a forklift truck, lorry trailer and wooden pallets.

Using two jets and two hose reels, the fire was extinguished by approximately 6.10am the following day.

Group Commander Jamie Johnson said: "The high winds made tackling the fire challenging but crews did a great job in bringing it under control and preventing it from spreading further."

The A605 was closed to protect motorists due to the intensity of the heat from the fire, however the road has since reopened.

Relief crews from March and Sawtry attended overnight and one crew from Sawtry remains at the scene monitoring hotspots and dampening down the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
