Homes evacuated as car disappears into giant sinkhole in Essex street
Homes in Essex have been evacuated after a car fell into a huge sinkhole.
People living on Hatch Road in Pilgrim's Hatch were told to leave their homes at around 2am this morning (Monday, February 10).
Emergency services remain at the scene while the car is recovered.
Photos show the car partially submerged and both the driver and the passenger airbags deployed.
Essex Fire and Rescue Service say six properties were evacuated due to unstable ground but they made the scene safe by 3:53am before leaving it in the care of Anglian Water.
First Essex confirmed that local bus services are affected by the road closure.
