Go Ape boss chosen to replace Nick Conrad as Parliamentary Candidate after rape comments row

Broadland Conservatives have selected Jerome Mayhew to replace Nick Conrad as their candidate in the General Election.

Mr Conrad, a former BBC Radio Norfolk presenter, was forced to stand down over comments made in 2014 in which he said women should keep "their knickers on" to avoid rape.

He stood down on Thursday, 7 November, saying the media attention had distracted from his campaign.

Mr Mayhew, who has worked for the outdoor activity company since 2006, came second behind Mr Conrad in the Broadland Conservative hustings.

He is seeking to replace Keith Simpson, who was MP for the constituency from 2010, but announced he would be standing down for the upcoming General Election.

The other candidates standing for election in Broadland are:

  • Ben Goodwin, Liberal Democrats

  • Jess Barnard, Labour

  • Andrew Boswell, Green

  • Alex Hayes, Brexit Party
