Mary Beard told to strip to her underwear in airport security search
Heathrow Airport have apologised to Cambridge classicist Mary Beard, who's claimed she had to strip to her underwear in the security queue.
The renown lecturer Tweeted about her experience on Wednesday, 30 October.
She said: "I know rules are rules (and we all depend on airport security) but was a bit surpised to be told to take off what I think is a 'tunic' (they thought was a 'jacket') at Heathrow security this morning, down to my scrappy undies. Much to curiosity/embarrassment of other passengers!"
Heathrow Airport replied to the scholar, who was made a Dame in 2018, apologising for the experience, and asking for more details.
But Dame Beard said she did not want to "see the staff concerned told off" and refused to disclose which terminal it happened in.
