Man charged with murder 14 months after body found in river

A man has been charged with the murder of Joe Pooley, over a year after the 22-year-old's body was found in the River Gipping in Ipswich.

Joe, who was from the town, was discovered on the morning of Monday, 13 August 2018 in a stretch of the river near London Road.

Sebastian Smith, of no fixed abode, has now been charged with murder and will appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 30 October.

A post-mortem found the 22-year-old died of immersion in water

The 34-year-old was originally arrested in January and bailed until July, when he was released under investigation.

Three other people have been arrested on suspicion of murder since the death - two women and a man. They are all currently released under investigation.
