'Evacuation notice' issued to parts of West Norfolk coast
The Environment Agency has issued a "precautionary evacuation notice" for parts of the West Norfolk coast ahead of predicted high tides.
Staff have begun knocking on doors around Snettisham, Heacham and Hunstanton to warn people living there and the area's floodgates have been closed, officials said.
King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council said a rest centre was being set up at Hunstanton Community Centre and was due to open at 7.15am on Tuesday 1 October.
The flood warnings focus on caravan parks and properties based between the two sea defences from Snettisham to Hunstanton.
Officials say a combination of high tide, due at 8.40am on Tuesday 1 October, and a strong north-westerly wind could lead to significant flooding.
The Environment Agency has urged people to leave their properties and caravans between 7am and 10am on Tuesday - and advices them not to return until told it is safe to do so.
In Hunstanton, flooding is expected around South Beach Road, Seagate Road, the seafront and promenade. In Heacham, North Beach, Jubilee Road and South Beach are due to be affected. And in Snettisham, officials believe the seafront will be flooded.
