A Bedfordshire man is campaigning for all railway stations to be more accessible for people with disabilities.
Ian Cook regularly struggles to get on to the platform at Flitwick Station. It doesn't have any step-free options, not only making it difficult for people like Ian, but also for those with pushchairs or heavy suitcases and he wants this to change.
Figures show that across the East of England only 70% of stations have step free access.
Great Northern Trains says it applied for Government funding under the Access for All Scheme for Flitwick, but was unsuccessful.
The train company says it is still committed to making improvements across its network.
In a statement, Network Rail said “We know we’ve got more to do to improve accessibility…That’s why we will continue to work with our colleagues across the rail industry over the next five years to ensure that each and every passenger can use the railway safely, confidently and independently.”
