Norwich City trio Ben Godfrey, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell receive England U21s call-ups
Norwich City trio Ben Godfrey, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell have been called up the England Under 21s squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.
All three players have made impressive starts to life in the Premier League and have played every minute of the Canaries' three matches so far.
Cantwell, 21, scored his first Premier League goal in last Saturday's 3-2 defeat against Chelsea at Carrow Road, while centre-back Godfrey, 21, and right-back Aarons, 19, have also been standout players in the opening weeks of the season.
All three players have played for England's other age groups, but none have featured for the U21s so far.
However, that could change when England take on Turkey and Kosovo in their first two qualifiers on September 6 and September 9.
"I was delighted to hear the news as it’s my first Under-21s call-up and at 19 years old, I’m still eligible for the Under-20s so it’s massive for me to be selected in the squad," Aarons said.
"My family are really proud of me and obviously the Under-21s is the next step to reaching the senior squad which is my ultimate goal but I’m very thankful to be selected in the team."
Godfrey added: "It’s a massive honour to be called up to the Under-21s squad. I couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends!
"I’ve worked hard to get here, and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the lads. I'm also extremely happy for my teammates, Max and Todd. It's well-deserved for both of them and it will be great to represent the country together."
"It’s an amazing feeling to be called up to the Under 21s for the upcoming games. It’s a bit surreal to be honest to think that I am playing at this level with Max and Ben as well," said Cantwell.
"I’m enjoying my football and am believing in my ability and I just want to try and repay Daniel [Farke] in my performances for the faith he has shown in me."
Godfrey, Aarons and Cantwell are all likely to return to Norwich's starting line-up for their clash at West Ham United on Saturday, after they were rested from the eleven for the midweek EFL Cup loss at Crawley Town.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town midfielder Andre Dozzell has been selected in the England U20s squad for their friendlies against Netherlands and Switzerland next month.
