More than 4,000 people have today signed a petition to save Norwich's Café Britannia.

It's believed the Ministry of Justice has told management to vacate the building which adjoins Norwich Prison.

The café offers work to inmates at the jail as part of their rehabilitation.It's believed the café will close on Friday.

The Ministry of Justice issued a statement on behalf of the prison saying the closure is due to the poor state of repair of the building.

Café Britannia currently employs 11 prisoners.

Two have been relocated to other Britannia Enterprises establishments and the Ministry of Justice says work placements will be found for the remaining nine shortly.
