Northampton's fly-tipping getting worse as residents step in

Latest statistics show fly tipping in Northampton is up by almost a quarter since last year.

In June, the council cleared up 2 thousand separate reports of dumped rubbish and some residents have taken it upon themselves to pick up smaller amounts of litter.

The Borough Council admits it is a growing problem, but that it has a zero tolerance approach.

Fly tipping costs tax payers on average around £750,000 per year.

Despite an increase in incidents, the council said a record number of fixed penalty notices were handed out last year.
