Cambridgeshire gamekeeper jailed for accidental killing of teenage boy
A gamekeeper has been sentenced to seven years in prison after a loaded gun he left in the front of a Land Rover went off, killing a teenager sitting in the back.
Ben Wilson, 29, from Ely in Cambridgeshire, was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter following the death of 18-year-old Peter Colwell, who was shot dead in the middle back seat of a Land Rover in February 2017.
Another gamekeeper, Ben Fitzsimons, 23, from Pwllheli, was cleared of manslaughter but jailed for two years for possessing a loaded gun in a public place.
The prosecution said the gun was owned by Wilson and had been left, loaded, in the front of the Land Rover which was parked in a pub carpark.The weapon was somehow discharged and shot Colwell, who was sitting in the back of the car.
