A new library has been officially opened in Daventry by the MP for Northampton North Michael Ellis.

Daventry library moved from its previous location in the former Grammer School to the new refurbished Abbey Centre and opened to the public on the 13th May.

It's been designed to be used as a community hub for all ages with a new children's area.

It comes as councils across the region look at closing libraries to make budget savings.

The library is also “dementia friendly” and has been developed with this in mind, creating an environment that is welcoming and accessible to customers with dementia. A separate computer and learning centre also provides space for quiet study.

The new children’s area is already popular, with bright colours, chalk boards, little den areas and a comfy sofa. There is also the added bonus of a safe outside space, with a large canopy, meaning it will be accessible in all weathers.
