A man has been reunited with his stolen bicycle after a social media trawl led him to track it down for sale in Poland.

Marc London's triathlon bike, worth around £9,000, was stolen from his Baldock home in August last year.

Determined to get it back, Marc trawled through social media for similar bikes and astonishingly stumbled upon the one he believed to be his for sale in a shop in Poland.

His suspicions were confirmed when the shop was subsequently raided by Polish Police who believed that stolen goods were being sold through the unit.

Marc then contacted Hertfordshire Police's Sergeant Al Clarke and the Polish police to see if the bike could be identified as his.

Sergeant Al Clarke said: “This was a very long process. The language barrier was an issue and things moved slowly until the International Crime Coordination Centre became involved.

"They got in contact with prosecutors in Poland and finally, the bike was identified as Marc’s and released for collection.”

Marc travelled to Poland at the end of April and after a three-hour interview, he was reunited with it.
