Vandals have destroyed a number of bird boxes in a National Trust wood in Bedfordshire.

Local resident Jacqui Clarke found six damaged boxes in total while she was walking her dog in Chute Wood on Dunstable Downs.

It's thought that a small fire was also started in the area.

Writing on Facebook, Mrs Clarke said that "every single" bird box had been smashed.

The discovery prompted an angry reaction from local people on the Don't Let Dunstable Die group's Facebook page - including Amanda Bunnage who described the vandalism as "mindless and pointless destruction."
