Coastal communities across the east are celebrating a multi-million pound funding boost.

The Government has announced that 15 projects in the region will benefit from money set aside to improve and revitalise the 'Great British Coast'.

Felixstowe is one of the big winners, receiving almost £1m towards the 'South Sea Front Regeneration Project'.

King's Lynn's 'Sail the Wash' project, Canvey Island's seafront and a plan to 'unlock' the Essex Coastal path have also won major investment.

More than 70 projects up and down the country will get a share of around £36m.

The Government scheme aims to improve tourist attractions, create jobs and promote economic growth.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Coastal said: "What fantastic news this announcement is for Felixstowe just as we are moving into the Easter break and the start of the 2019 season. It was a team effort all round and credit goes to everyone who worked on the application.

“It’s particularly good news as seafront businesses in the area have long championed the need for investment and this will give them confidence in the months ahead that the area will get the uplift it deserves.”
